For the third time now we have a batch of DVDs that seem to work randomly. I’ve seen plenty of people complain about V.2 of Gurren Lagann (mine works), the new Zegapain, and V.1 and 2 of Code Geass (mine don’t work), and it’s been a few weeks and Bandai despite recalling some, and claiming to ship replacements to stores has been silent to the customers, but no more, Bandai is gonna set things straight and make sure we know what is going on.
….Great, thanks Bandai. You gotta wonder how they have sent replacements out if they don’t know what the issue is (and not mentioning the issues with the other DVD). By Marc | August 14th, 2008
After going over ADV’s changing boxart, I realized another company is doing something in regards to their packaging. Categories: Feature

Hey, Sports fans! It looks like the time has come for me to make my debut on the FBR, so I am going to kick things off with the 1999 animated series Blue Gender, which was localized by Funimation in the US between 2001 and 2003. Today we’re going to take a look at the very first episode of the series, the episode that started it all, and see what it’s all about. The episode is at the bottom of the review, so if you want to watch it before reading the review, scroll on down (it’s split into pieces, all are down there). By Marc | August 12th, 2008
I’m not sure what I liked better about this episode… the story? the art?…nah. It is completely about the mock anime song. Was even better in HD. Categories: Feature

We got some giant shiny DVD art for two Nozomi Entertainment (Right Stuf) titles coming out later on in the year (the artwork isn’t final). I haven’t seen these anywhere else yet, so enjoy. First we have the second season of Maria Watches Over Us. edit- While I haven’t been able to confirm this with 100% accuracy, the other side of the box will have this image in the frame. Then next we have the classic Towards the Terra movie. Looking forward to both of these myself (where’s the remastered Tylor box Right Stuf?) Categories: News

I’ve gotten a few questions from friends about this, saw Nebs wonder about it, and seen at least two people claim they had to for ‘legal reasons’, so I felt it was about time I explain what is up with ADV re-releasing all kinds of old thinpak boxes they’ve done with new covers, and why new covers equals more sales. Just thought I would clarify this since I’ve seen a bit of confusion on the net. Code Geass R2 will start on Adult Swim immediatly after the end of Code Geass on Adult Swim. Categories: News

The big news from Day 3 of Otakon is ADV finally has new stuff to announce. First up, for anime, they have the 3 episode Indian Summer (Koharu Biyori) OVA. Then under a new subbrand called Switchblade Films they have a few live action films. A new series of Kunoichi movies, Female Prisoner Epsilon, Attack Girl Swim Team Vs. the Undead, Cruel Restaurant, and Gluttonous 1 & 2. We also may get some news on the live action Evangelion film later this year Categories: News

I really enjoy the Shin-Chan dub. I normally prefer dubs to be as close as reasonably possible (although as long as the subs are uncut I don’t mind some rewriting and such in the dub). Shin-Chan on DVD is technically an ‘edited’ release, but I just love it so much. Categories: Feature

Woo, first review, and a couple days before the set is officially out also. School Rumble is a show I really enjoy. The singles released between late 2007 through the middle of 2008 had quite a few flaws in regards to video though. Funimation has changed a show released as six singles into a boxset with five disks, so let’s take a look at what’s changed, what’s better, what’s worse, and what is the same. Continue reading
