Wow, it’s been a long trek to get this on DVD. It’s kinda ironic that the last bit of all the original Dragon Ball/Z/GT related animations we finally get uncut are the first few episodes of the series (not including the 2008 special or Kai in that, purely all the originally released stuff.)

This is where the king of shonen anime started over twenty years ago. How does it stand up to it’s bigger brother Dragon Ball Z? Let’s take a look. (more…)

Lucky Star OVA, Early Look/Review
Lucky Star returns for one last… well not sure I’d call Lucky Star an adventure… but Lucky Star is back for one more go round (that works).

A few months after the series has ended we get about another episode and a half. With a bit of time having passed, is Lucky Star still the bright shining star we remember? (more…) -
Gad Guard, Series Review
So I sat down to start watching Gonzo’s “Gad Guard”, not knowing much about the series, except that it was a mecha anime. Now I know what you’re thinking (I thought it too); if you’ve seen one mecha anime, you’ve seen ‘em all. But don’t count out “Gad Guard”; it may surprise you, a little.

I actually watched the show subtitled on FUNimation’s website via their free internet stream. So for obvious reason I won’t get too technical about the video or audio quality, but stick more to the story and animation elements. Also, this review pertains only to the original subbed version of the show and not the dub. However, from watching the dubbed series trailer, it doesn’t sound half bad. In fact, it sounds damn good, but I’m only saying that based off a trailer, so I wouldn’t take that statement to heart. (more…) -
Kannagi: Volume 1, Early Look/Review
It’s sorta odd to have a DVD in hand for a license announced just a week ago, but here Kannagi is.

After a year of oddity from Bandai in regards to quality and actually getting releases out (not to mention similar issues in the past), people are being a bit on the cautious side with Bandai disks, let’s see how this one fares. (more…) -
Digimon: Data Squad- Collection One, Early Look/Review
Digimon in the USA has always had an odd history. Never quite getting a real release for any of it’s seasons on DVD (minus a single DVD for the first season released nearly a decade ago that had over 10 episodes stuffed onto it and the first three films in their ‘edited into one film for the USA’ version on a different DVD) Well Go USA has teamed up with Toei USA to bring boxsets of the newest season to the USA.

After some lackluster online streaming and video on demand offerings recently, let’s see if this is finally a Digimon release fans can get behind and enjoy.

Dragonball Z: Broly Triple Feature (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
Wow, we already have an American anime Blu-ray getting a double dip (well mostly anyways). Here we are again with yet another Broly Blu-ray. The original ‘prototype’ Blu-ray disk had quite a few problems.

Is this new disk’s power maximum? Let’s go take a look. (more…) -
Akira (Blu-ray), Early Look/Review
It’s time for one of the bigger, if not the biggest early review I’ve done, Akira. Akira is one of the biggest, if not THE biggest anime as far as us over here in the USA are often concerned with. Over the years with more and more big name releases it may get a bit more bogged down when it comes to discussions of the biggest things ever, but for anyone who got into anime years ago, Akira is the big shadow in the room.

Getting to do the first review I know of of this disk nearly a month before it comes out anywhere in the world is just….awesome. Being probably one of the closest things anime fans will get to the must have Blu-ray, let’s take a look at how they did, including some new ground broken. (more…) -
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (Bandai version), Early Look/Review
After lots of problems in 2008, with quite a few recalls, it’s time for one of Bandai’s big 2009 products, a new year, a new start, let’s see how Bandai does with their first Blu-ray, of Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence.

Negima!? (Season 2)- Volume 1, Early Look/Review
Time for another early look. I’m a big Ken Akamatsu fan, so I’ve been looking forward to more Negima for awhile. The new series is interesting (yes it’s a new series, put Season 2 up there because it is still vaguely known as that to most people).
Let’s take a look at this reimagination, see what works, and see what doesn’t.
