Crunchyroll will be adding a number of series from ADV, Media Blasters, and Gonzo up in the following weeks and months.

Kadokawa has Garei Zero, based on the Garei manga.

  • Aya Hirano Going on a Diet?!

Aya Hirano (Haruhi in Haruhi, Konata in Lucky Star, Lumiere in Kiddy Grade, among a ton of other roles) has declared herself obese, and has decided to go on a rather strict diet in an attempt to…not be obese…

    Picture after the break… (more…)

  • Casshern Sins Cast and Trailer

The website for the new Casshern series, Casshern Sins, has updated with cast info and a tiny little trailer (the trailer can be seen at the official site).

Casshern himself will be played by Tohru Furuya.  Furuya has played alot of hero type characters that people might remember.  Yamcha from Dragonball/Z/GT, Amuro Ray in Gundam, Tuxedo Mask/Kamen in Sailor Moon, Pegasus Seiya in Saint Seiya among god knows how many other roles in other shows.

I consider that to be great casting, but a bit of a suprise, Daisuke Ono was announced as the voice of Casshern for the upcoming Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game.  Ono had never played Casshen before, but is an anime VA who has been getting bigger and better roles over the past few years.  The assumption me, and quite a few others made, was he was cast in the game because he would be Casshern in the new series.

Cho will be Ohji, Akiko Yajima will be Luna, Nami Miyahara will be Lyuze, Yuko Minaguchi will be Ringo…

    and the big villian?

Kenji Utsumi will be playing the Braiking Boss.  Lots of past good roles for him (including playing the Braiking Boss in the mid 90’s Casshern OVA).  Shenlong in Dragonall/Z/GT, Alex Louis Armstrong in Full Metal Alchemist, and alot more.

  • Dragonball GT Season 1 Set Solicitation Mistake

The one thing that was mentioned at the Funimation panel of interest is the Dragonball GT Season 1 set will be 5 disks.  Since the set is 32 episodes and the solicitation info at quite a few stores said 3 disks people started to get a bit worried about video compression.  5 disks should be fine for 32 episodes though, let’s just hope that like the trailer shows, lets hope these episodes aren’t cropped like DBZ was.

  • Otakon Day 1 News Roundup

The first day of Otakon’s panels is beginning to come to a close and as for announcements….

    Nadda.

Nothing was really announced, I guess you could count Saber Rider (although no one I know was at the Voltron/Saber Rider panel, so I have no idea if anything was actually announced there), but that was announced yesterday.

At the Media Blasters panel some people brought up Gaogaigar Final and nothing concrete was said one way or the other.  Funimation’s panel was largely just going over stuff we already knew.  I guess whatever ‘thing’ Gen had mentioned in quite a few recent interviews isn’t ready to be announced yet, hopefully soon.

Let’s hope we get some interesting news in the next couple of days.

  • What Happened To the DVD Release of MCoG?

Awhile ago we learned that Fabulous Films would be releasing the classic series Mysterious Cities of Gold on DVD in a few different countries, the USA included.

Mysterious Cities of Gold was a coproduction between quite a few different companies and groups and is one of the first anime (the first?) that aired on Nickelodeon back in the 1980s.

It came out in the UK, it came out in Australia, and everything has been silent on the USA front, so what happened? (more…)

  • Saber Rider Announced For DVD

Well there goes my Otakon guess that Media Blasters would announce the show.

  • Toon Disney Changing Focus and Name

In February Toon Disney will be rebranded as Disney XD (which is the same name as Disney’s online video viewer service).  The new channel will have a general focus on the 6-14 year old boy market.

It will continue to have a good majority of the current shows it has now, like Batman the Animated Series and likely Power Rangers.

One show that will be joining Disney XD is RoboDz, a CGI anime that Disney co-produced with Toei and airs on Toon Disney’s Japanese counterpart.  RoboDz is a short form story where each episode is 5 minutes long.
