I would like to know if this version 1.11 that came to US is censored or have cuts or dialogs different from the original (with indecent language, for example. I hate when it happens…
If it is possible to inform me, I woud be very pleased…I really want to by it, but first I must know these details…

Because I’m reviewing the product, not just the movie.

And the movie is basically just the first six episodes with a few minor changes. Acceptable, good…. nothing amazing.

Oh wow, how can somebody get so totally caught up in describing menus and extras but so totally avoid any comparison of the TV series to the movie or between the two versions of the movie, beyond the often-regurgitated “it is good but also bad because it feels like watching the first six episodes again”? Do us a favor and actually DO watch the first six episodes again!!

I’ve always tried to stay away from synopsis style stuff, not because I don’t like it, but because… if someone is gonna see the movie, they don’t need to hear about it from me. I’d rather do an overview of the ‘product’ and let the person decide if it’s something they want to buy. It’s happened quite a few times where I will read a synopsis/description of a show, finish reading, no interest at all in watching it, end up seeing the show on a lark, and LOVE it (Soul Eater being an example here.) That’s part of why I’ve added a big drive to include embedded trailers, links to legal episode streams, and when possible, legal episode embeds. The shows speak for themselves far better than I can.

My personal database is up to 45 movies (all that I own to date) and I also do some updates to dvdaf.com as the need arises. I’ve used your reviews to add the lossless audio types of the E7 and Eva 1.11 BDs to their database since you’re the FIRST source of data regarding the audio types, even before the retailers. I don’t know why the studios don’t bother announcing the audio specs in their solicitations {ORZ.)

As for your reviews, I don’t like to review the reviewers since it seems presumptuous for someone like me to critique someone’s hard work, but since you helped me, I owe you. The review is very detailed and specific, which I find quite helpful when it comes to the finer points of things that most reviews overlook or gloss over. One thing that seems “missing” to me is that there’s not even a brief synopsis of what the movie contains. You do mention that it’s basically a rehash of Eva TV episodes 1-6, but there may be some people out there that are new to anime and don’t have a clue about the setting or characters of Evangelion. A brief paragraph on that may have been useful. Everything else in your review, however, is top-notch. The full-res PNGs for screenshots are a nice touch, especially. I’d give your review an A. It would’ve been an A+ except for the missing synopsis.

Truthfully Douglas, it didn’t occur to me until you said it that there were no English side extras. The ‘Rebuild’ extra on it’s own shows so much as far as animation goes that it frankly, gives a greater depth than we often see in 30 or 60 minute behind the scenes, and it just caused me not to notice.

Informative review Marc. After the debacle of Evangelion 1.01 (the color issues were atrocious), we finally have the definitive version with Evangelion 1.11. As an owner of the Japanese Blu-ray release, it was somewhat disappointing to see that FUNimation didn’t add any extras to the U.S. release. I mean, how about some behind-the-scene footage of the American voice actors or something? This is a huge film, they could’ve done something to accommodate its importance. It’s like releasing a Criterion Collection film without any extras!

At the end of the day though, this is an essential anime release and an absolute purchase by me. Even though I have the Japanese version, I still enjoyed the English version (I saw it in theaters awhile back).
